I wish SIRIS was playing at the show. It would make a lot of sense.

I hate all this bullshit about "carbon neutral". What it means is "I'm rich, so I'll continue wasting natural resources, but since I exploit enough poor people, I have funds to make more poor people plant trees in my honor". Truly irresponsible. And large events like this? Even if they make up for all the energy expended in sound & light systems etc. - what about the tons of fossil fuels burnt to transport all the participants and the audience to get there? Political masturbation in the name of ecology. Al Gore sucks as much for this as for letting Bushy steal the White House. What a chump.

Like Live Aid & Live 8 before it, Live Earth will make people feel good about themselves for a few hours before they promptly forget all about it... just like African famine/debt.

Very appropriate to pair the most tacky music event in a decade with the most tacky building... hm... ever? And Sarah Brightman should sing a duet with Jay Chou (I just tried: you can sing "Woorld Expo" to the music of "Barcelona" - now people are staring at me)and the fireworks at the end will form Olympic Rings and 2000 6-year-old gymnastics girls will bounce up and down to rhythmic clapping by the uniformed front rows. I am sure it will match the CCTV spring festival gala in style and grandeur!

Yep, that's the human race. Raise awareness by burning massive amounts of fuel to generate massive amounts of electricity (and heat) in the hopes of getting everyone on board with global warming.

And the tickets won't be cheap, it is also doubtful that there will be front row seating or executive suits donated so that dirt farmers living through drought or sea level rise can enjoy one night of fun.

The SMH states that the concert will be held at the base of the Pearl Oriental Tower.

http://www.smh.com.au/news/environment/after-feed-the-world-save-it/2007/04/11/1175971145480.html

A LiveEarth concert held at the base of perhaps the most highly lit area on Earth?

Hmmm....

You're really out of the loop, aren't you. Live Earth - Shanghai - will be held at Babyface, and the audience will be encouraged to reduce global warming by only smoking half a cigarette before returning to their game of dice. Cui Jian is not appearing, but you can expect a dynamite show from Da Shan, and a squad of 6 year-old tap dancers in tuxedos. The encore will be those three gals playing the black plastic electric violins over a symphonic track.

Get with it Shanghaiist!
