Looking for something to do after our happy hour?
Provided you’re still standing — bravo! — you may want to crawl to/check out the Walkman Battle at Pirates. We’re digging Pirates lately — good space, interesting events, and a tasty chocolate martini that even comes with a chocolate Pocky-esque biscuit.
The party brings together several independent local collectives: The Dopefiend (welcome back!), Playmobil, studiozero (they of Leonard de Leonard, DJ Science, Ramona Cordova, et al fame), Fly, Uprooted Sunshine (who will still be running Shanghai By Bus at 4 Live the next day), Shanghigh, Dreamseekers, and Phreaktion (who will also be closing the night at Absolute House). That was a mouthful. Whew.
The crews will duke it out by playing three tracks each from their mp3/iPod/minidisk/walkman/whatever, and the audience will choose their favourites. We’re not really sure how it’s going to work — the promoters claim some sort of ‘super sound meter’…eh? — but could be fun regardless. 8 teams, 7 rounds.
Happy Friday! Shanghaiist likes the idea of going out on Friday, but is not sure if she's going to make it through the day. Weekend? Whazzat?
Walkman Battle. Friday, April 20, at Pirates (137 Xingfu Lu near Fahuazhen Lu). Free entry. Starts at 10pm. For more info, email pirateshanghai@gmail.com.
