Yes, there are rumors of a Sonic Youth show tonight at Live Bar. And yes, if you call the bar they will say Sonic Youth is playing along with Torturing Nurse tonight. Is this for real? Who knows.
Inside sources tell us that Thurston Moore expressed interest in a band called Torturing Nurse. The Live Bar owner said, "They are playing at Live Bar on Wednesday." And Thurston said, "Yeah, I'll go." And that's when Live Bar told Torturing Nurse to come play because Sonic Youth was playing, too. Very unclear whether Sonic Youth has agreed to play tonight or if Thurston Moore just said he was going to come check out a band, or if that will even happen.
We'd hate to go all the way to Live Bar just to be tortured. But, you never know.
One of last night's show's promoters said Live bar was "talking out their asses" but gave them credit for creating a buzz. It's true the band has interest in Torturing Nurse. It's also true that the last the promoter talked to Torturing Nurse (today) the band had no idea they were playing tonight at Live Bar. It's possible that if Torturing Nurse does play at Live Bar tonight and if Sonic Youth, after a scheduled dinner, feels like heading out there, they might show up. Could they jam with Torturing Nurse for a couple songs? Who knows. But someone who is with the band right now just told Shanghaiist, "Sonic Youth MIGHT go see Torturing Nurse but they're definitely NOT playing."
To see if you can endure a night of Torturing Nurse, we suggest you go here:

I was sat on the first row and the guy next to me was fuming when people stormed up to the front invading his space. But really, who wants to watch the Youth in a civilised atmosphere?
Great gig. It's a shame that the promoters lost money on it - both in BJ and in SH.
The venue didn't allow them to sell tickets on the night, so they were forced to sell tickets from a car parked round the corner. When the venue complained about to the police they were forced to park the car a bit further away.
Meanwhile immediately in front of the hall the venue owners had flooded the place with touts selling the tickets that they had available.
Just got a call from the Sonic Youth promoter who said the band will not be attending Live Bar tonight. They thought the bar's owner was being too "cheeky."
where would you take Sonic Youth on a Wednesday night in Shanghai? Has to be Freaklub I reckon...
I'm jealous!
Cheeky ey?
Thurston did indeed say he might go to Live Bar if Torturing Nurse were playing, but unfortunately the owner of Live Bar decided to tell Shanghai media and people that SY would play with Torturing Nurse at his bar.
The band have had a fairly gruelling 4 days and were hoping just to go and hang out tonight. They have done press & signed autographs ad infinitum plus hung out with fans the whole time they have been here. It's a shame that Live Bar misses out on having Thurston and co. turn up for a drink, but the owner should have been a bit more sensitive to their needs.
By the way, is this the same guy that took Live Bar back off Brad...? IF this is the case, then maybe it's not such a shame...
Masses of thanks to everyone who turned up last night. You made the show a great one.
We'll be out tonight, so might see you...!!
It's the same guy.
Same guy, yeah - was out in the front handing out cards and telling people that SY was going to be playing tonight at "his" place...dick.
Why not put them on the bar at Zapatas? It *is* Wednesday.
Good show, Archie.
