A CCTV.com 'report' entitled "Uniqueness of 10 hot female stars in China" was recently brought to our attention. It had us laughing out loud (but it also might help explain why China has a soaring suicide rate among females). Below, you will find the entire text of the in-depth story. Gong Li, a traditional Chinese beauty, especially in the eyes of foreigners. In the Chinese perception, she is "average." Shortcomings; her face is a little long and her lips are a little thick.Zhang Ziyi, actually she is called "little Gong Li." Zhang and Gong have some resemblence on facial features, but she is more beautiful than Gong Li. Her face is suitable to play the role of ancient girls or modern types. Her nose bridge is very high compared to other Chinese girls. Shortcomings: her top lip is thin and lower lip is thick. So she looks a little stubborn and not easy to deal with.
Zhang Jingchu's face is classical, although she has a big jaw.

That's some pretty whack commentary.
I've actually seen Zhou Wei and Zhou Xun up close in casual settings where they weren't accompanied by multiple starf****** handlers. Both were absolutely adorable without any airs about them. Conversely, I was able to side up to Gong Li (an Elle party) and Zhang Ziyi (as an extra in a Coke commercial) without the same feeling.
While flashing smiles left and right, I watched poor Gong Li's face quiver as she struggled to 'be on' nonstop. Her's was an air of woman longing for a whisky and a back door to slip out of.
As for Zhang Ziyi, I never can figure out what the fuss is about? You can walk a city block in Shanghai and eye 10 gals more head-turning than her. Up close to the star on the Coke set, I experienced a sensation akin to watching paint dry—or reading Dan Kedl's backpage column in 'that's'.
Ok, clearly I have too much free time today.
This country is so fvked.
It's not like this is some trashy mag or something, this is CCTV promoting the ever-present shallow and superficial Chinese ideal.
DP - I need to know where I can meet Zhang Ziyi and Gong Li. I will do anything for this information.

Any self respecting Chinese mother would tell things a lot worse and more critical to her daughter in a heartbeat. Oh and don't forget the whole Gong Li is fat comments I hear all the time. Just because she isn't flat like 99.999% Chinese women it doesn't make her fat for goodness sake. I find the beauty trend or the increasing emphasis on it very alarming.
That writer are must to apologize for hurt those feelings of all chinese people on planet of earth! why did he/her done that!!11!?

Cool! I think that CCTV hit the mark mostly. Does anyone else think Zhao Wei is part Jewish? Doesn't she remind you of Rachel Weisz? I want MORE of this flavorful commentary not less!
But I disagree about ZZY. I like her lower lip but otherwise I don't find her exciting.

I find the "horseface" comment the most amusing.
This kind of commentary about Chinese starlets just goes to show how the Chinese above all other needs absolutely MUST criticize and belittle so they can feel better about themselves.
But if you cannot see a woman's h0le or a picture of the h0le, then you can evaluate nothing!
