For our Beijing readers, from James Kynge:
We are holding a candlelit vigil for Alan Johnston, the BBC reporter who has been held in Gaza for several weeks. Contrary to recent reports, Alan has been confirmed as alive by Palestinian authorities, and various initiatives aimed at his release are gathering momentum. This is a crucial time.
The BBC is organising vigils for him in several capitals around the world to show support for his release. These will be televised and broadcast.
The Beijing vigil will be held this Thursday, May 3rd, and we will meet at 7 pm at the main gate of the Jianguomenwai diplomatic compound. Please come and show your support, bring along family and friends as well, and spread the word to other interested people.
Looking forward to seeing you there.
