Urr...haven't we seen this before? A few drunken expat English teachers venting their frustration at not being able to find a job somewhere more appetizing than China, then this knee-jerk reaction from (ethnic) Chinese that sounds ridiculously over-protective... and insulting other ethnic groups(I guess Uighurs are nothing but roadkills to you bigots, eh?) When can you guys ever learn?

Hey, nanheyangrouchuan and shit, Bush Jr. called: he got a cushy place for you as suicide bomb meat in Iraq, courtesy of Blackwood & Co. He sends his apology, though; for anywhere else would require job qualifications that you just don't have. Isn't the world cruel?

CJ: get a life. Or make a trip to Xinjiang and get anal-ized by mujahadins; nanhe tried it and said it helped him think straight.

@Carl..

Googling for other animal abuse reports outside China? Sure. Go ahead. Unfortunately for the animals around the world, you'll find them. Animal abuse is a shameful practice wherever you encounter it.

But let's not dilute the issue at hand. This is Shanghaiist, not Globalist nor Americaiist or Theydoittooist. We write about issues in/about/that affect Shanghai and China. In this case, I've written about an issue, supplied facts and placed them in context. I've also supplied contrasting information that demonstrates both Chinese and foreigners have blood lust for live-animal feedings supplied by Chinese wildlife parks. This isn't generalising.

Live animal feeding is a terrible practice that is tolerated in Shanghai and in China, whereas many other places around the world have out-lawed and actively enforced against such practices.

Perhaps what is the worst aspect of this whole report is that people like the patrons at Shanghai Wild Animal Park not only tolerate live-feeding, but encourage the repetition of such barbaric actions by acting indifferently or positively-responding to park policies. The managers of the park may see this as a way to promote their park and earn a few bucks and draw crowds - who cares about a few animals then?

I don't think China having a reputation as having a poor reputation with regard to animal rights is a sweeping generalisation. Spend 20 minutes googling on "animal+abuse+China", and I'm sure you will agree that it is a problem.

completely accurate and true. The 'peasant' could possibly be debated, but the thought process is so unevolved it's a joke. People usually make an excuse like tlaking about how in the west we were educated differently. Umm, that's the point.

Let's try to stay away from sweeping generalizations Tim, it's very poor writing. Never forget that there are 1.3 billion Chinese people and you can't really define them by actions of so few. Moreover, give me twenty minutes with Google and I can find you just as many recent articles about animal cruelty in the States or most likely anywhere else on the globe.

The Chinese are MUCH more fucked-up than the average American. In fact, the average Chinese is a brown-toothed peasant who thinks like someone in Europe circa 800 AD.

Modern China is Mao's prison-camp, commie-goon culture masquerading as Tang dynasty high-culture. It's the racist, fascist Chinese dream, and the best part is that all of China's deaf, dumb, and blind simpletons (about 99.9% of Chinese) buy it.

Same, same all over the world. Chinese are no exception. How about the guys who look on when someone tries to commit suicide by jumping from a building, especially the ones who shout 'jump'?

The Chinese are not more fucked-up than decadent Americans.

1. This has to stop ASAP. It's not entertaining at all. Quite the opposite.

2. The crocs still have to eat. Why not feed them some smelly uighurs? The crocs perfer food with strong odor.

It's obvious most people in this world eat meat, including myself. However, feeding an animal dead animals is a lot different than feeding them live ones. There's definitely something very cruel and inhumane about taking enjoyment from watching this kind of thing.

Cats. I'd like to see cats tossed in there. Yeah, and smokers too--alternating between Chinese and foreigners (beginning with a few French). And maybe men who wear carpi pants, R&B singers, people who talk too loud on their mobile, the entire Bush administration, Hugh Grant, DJs, ARCH cafe, queue jumpers, anybody who goes to Attica, Shanghai English language magazines, excessively adorned blue jeans, corporations, people who litter, and blog commenters who don't at least try to spell, punctuate and use grammar properly.

That tells a lot about the Chinese people and their culture. Chinese people only cares about nothing but their immediate family. The Chinese reserves little to no compassion for fellow mankind, let alone animals.

@ matty...

Fish or carrion? How about a little cute ducky in the pond?

I happened to know a few cute looking fishes in my time.

So what is the difference?

Sorry, too late, I already ate one for dinner.

@ Matthew...

"Torture". I think not.

Typical day of a a croc. They eat live animals, not dead ones most of the time.

Seems that they like to eat small boys if you throw enough rocks at them as well.

Humans are the one who eat dead ones.

Bye Bye little chicken.

2.) You.

The results... right after the break.

China should be greatful that Steve Irwin is not around to make a big global stink about it. I'll be the croc ponds are a bit fetid to boot. China can't do anything right.

I don't think its funny at all. This is not a question of feeding the crocs. The ducklings clearly are not a real food source -- they're far too small and there were far too many crocs for such a measly snack.

This is not some politically correct argument on whether zoo animals should be fed live creatures. Its not a moral question on whether humans should or should not eat meat. This is most clearly a case of deliberately torturing animals for nothing more than pure entertainment value!
