From Photo District Online we found out that a recent Ogilvy & Mather advertising campaign for an unnamed Italian restaurant used a photograph of a crying child that seemed eerily similar to a series of photos by photographer Jill Greenberg (click here to see some of Greenberg’s pictures).
The stylistic similarities are enough that Greenberg’s people felt obliged to bring the issue up with Ogilvy:
Greenberg declined to comment on this story.
Responding to an e-mail request for an interview, Michael Lee, managing director of O&M Advertising in Shanghai, said that the agency is “working with Jill for a solution.”
If you look under the picture of the baby you can see the name of the restaurant — Gondola Veneziana. “Freshly made angel hair” is the pithy caption next to it. More similar ads here.
