Shanghaiist isn't one to get up too early on the weekend to go out and buy groceries or produce; we prefer to watch the back of our eyelids. But we know that some of you do like to do active things each weekend morning. Personally, we dread the thought of hitting Carrefour, Lianhua or Hymall at this time, let alone any form of shopping on a Saturday morning.
So the thought of hitting a gourmet market on your weekend mornings isn't what you would call this little Shanghaiist's cup of tea. It might be yours though.
Shanghaiist has known about the regular farmer's markets held at the Portman Center where you can purchase certified organic produce, but now we have heard about two new markets initiatives starting up in Shanghai that may interest Shanghaiist readers.
If you happen to find yourself out in Jinqiao this morning, and we have heard vague reports that there are Shanghaiist readers in that area, you may want to head down to Slice Jinqiao on for the inaugural Slice Market, featuring locally-produced gourmet foods. The market starts from 11am. More details here.
From what Shanghaiist reckons is the ungodly hour of 9:30am on a Sunday morning, the Puxi Organic Farmers' Market featuring organic produce will have its first run in downtown Puxi. Head down to Dongping Lu to browse there wares. The market shuts at 11:30am, which is about the same time that we would like to be having our morning coffee.
Shanghaiist doesn't regularly purchase organic foods - we tend to hit our local neighbourhood's wet-market for our fresh bits and pieces. But we do know that often at farmer's markets, there are tasty sandwiches (and we are sure Paul, will be happy about that).
