Shanghaiist was surprised today to see well over 7,000 visitors coming in via this post today, and we were curious to know why so many people were Googling Hairong Tiantian, who caused a storm last year by not only posting saucy images of herself on her blog but also soliciting photos of limp penises.

So we did a bit of research ourselves and found out about the ex-model's latest stunt. Apparently she and Chinese artist Ye Fu have been doing a bit of performance art lately, living in adjacent tiny glass rooms, sealed off from one another and the rest of the world, in Beijing's eastern Jiuxianqiao industrial area.

Reuters tells us that Ye Fu got the idea for the show when in 2006 a museum curator offered him a job — "to live in a huge bird's nest on top of a five-meter-high pole for a month. Ye took the assignment, and since then, he's made month-long stays in odd places his signature artistic style."

Ye believes that the exhibition reflects the "isolation of many couples in today's hectic, time-starved world", but as the Reuters story quite rightly points out:

Whatever message the artists hope to convey appears to be lost on most passers-by who show more interest in Hairong's sexy chemise and crotchless stockings than in anything else.

If any Shanghaiist happens to be in Beijing and want to catch the show, it's on at the Beijing 798 Art District, but not for long. The month-long spectacle kicked off on 22 April, so that means you have just five days left!
