Shanghaiist has finally found a great local place to buy vegetarian bacon. We could have probably tracked it down much earlier if we had bothered to look properly, but we are still happy to be able to buy meat free bacon and sausages from Vegetarian Lifestyle on Songshan Lu.
We recommend you go there for a wholesome, cheap, tasty meal, before heading over to the freezer in the foyer that stocks the “meat” you can buy to take home. A large veggie sausage and a tray of rashers only cost us 13 RMB. Bacon sandwiches need good bread, so you should also take the opportunity to head around the corner to get a 9 RMB wholemeal loaf from Yamazaki’s Boulangerie in the basement of Pacific Department Store.
Vegetarian bacon sandwiches taste even better if you add some eggs, ketchup, mustard and savour the experience by doing it leisurely over the weekend.
