Who has the best beer selection in Shanghai?

shanghaibeer052207.jpgWould you believe the Eager Beaver? Check out the list to the right (paying special attention to the prices) and let us know what you think. They have most of the beers imported by American Craft Beer Partners (they have Brooklyn Lager, but it isn't on the menu), Coopers, Sam Adams and big bottles of Paulaner, which we hadn't seen elsewhere. We suppose they could use some Belgian beers and some Kiwi beers and maybe they should look into these Aussie beers headed to town soon thanks to Mat Ryan, formerly of Senses. But what Eager Beaver has now, already ranks the dive as perhaps the city's best hideout for beer lovers. What other places compare? Moon River Diner at New Factories comes to mind. Any other candidates?

From the photo you can see that in addition to an admirable beer selection, the Eager Beaver also boasts lots of Jager, a hookah pipe and at least one sword. On Saturday night, the bar was also home to an old Chinese guy who liked to dance.

Speaking of beer, the current issue of SH has a story called "Battle of the Beers" in which "several distinguished beer fans sit down to do some drinking — and conclude that Shanghai’s beer scene is better than ever." We're assuming our invite got lost in the mail.

Yeah, the Beaver has a great selection, and the prices are fair too. Bamboo also has a very good selection, and is a bargain during happy hour. Bulldog too has a few suprises.

Thanks for the mention about our beer coming in with www.justbeer.cn

Everyone get along to the launch at Sashas on the 10th of June. Check the website for details.

Well, its not a bad selection of many of the beers that you can get at quite a few bars around town, and the price is pretty nice. But most disappointing is only one English beer on the list, and its not even a popular English beer. I am deeply unhappy in general about the lack of English beers to buy in Shanghai. Jiuguang supermarket does occasionally have large bottles of Old Speckled Hen at a decent price. But why can't just one bar serve a good pint of Tetley's at a reasonable price!?

Bugger off pom!!!!

Seriously, you can get Tetley's at Blue Frog (honqiao, i think), and M and a few places. they are not pushing it very hard at all. in fact, you have to BEG to get it. Not the bars fault.

Thanks for the write-up Dan.
Not only the best beer selection in town but the Beaver is also one of the few bars that regularly plays rock music, has tequila and vodka lime shots for 15kuai(!), loads of hot chicks, people regularly getting up on the bar to dance and the bartender is pretty hot too........
