Designer Tang Pushes Fashion in China

I don't understand why Chinese always feel the need to harp on the "Chinese Characteristics" bit.

There are a lot of other countries that have modernised and joined the global economy without so self-consciously harping on the need for the world to reciprocally adopt their culture. No one in London wears kimonos, so what makes Tang think they'll wear cheongsams?

Truth be told, every time I travel, I do tend to buy ethnic clothing, but then I never wear it because it just makes me look silly and childish -- like a I'm playing dress-up.
