Jin Mao Tower scaled by Spiderman!

Yesterday afternoon, Shanghai's Jin Mao Tower was scaled by the 'real' Spiderman, French urban climber Alain Robert. Jin Mao worker songboshi was on the ball and caught video which was uploaded to YouTube.

Robert's earlier attempt in 2001 was halted by authorities. In the past, Robert had coyly hinted at his desire to climb Shanghai's highest (functional) building. The Jin Mao Tower, which currently ranks as the fourth highest in Asia stands at 420.6 meters (1380 feet).

Robert stated he had two separate requests to climb the structure denied by Shanghai authorities. Shanghaiist thinks that Robert doesn't share the concept of third-time's the charm, as he forthrightly went ahead with his latest climbing stunt. It also appears that every Wang and his dog in Shanghai (apart from Shanghaiist - sorry about that) was informed of this attempt, so it is a little surprising to this little Shanghaiist that his latest climb attempt wasn't blocked by authorities. Robert had this to say about his latest triumph.

“I’ve scaled the three tallest buildings in the world, so I reckoned I should also climb the fourth-tallest building. It’s like there’s something missing.”

Some would say it is his sanity.

During this carefully stage-managed attempt, Robert clad entirely in Spidey's suit, successfully climbed to the 88th floor of the building and returned to the ground in 90 minutes. Upon touching the ground, he was promptly detained by members of Shanghai's finest police force.

As a reward for this Herculean task, Robert has been reportedly been detained for between five and fifteen days.
