In Shanghaiist's past life, when she was not Shanghaiist but, rather, Torontoist -- oops, that's right, she wrote for the better local blog, blogTO -- she used to go to a kickass monthly called Shuffle.
The crowd was usually good, the vibe was mostly tight, but the music -- oh, that music -- was always ace. It was mash-up -- IDM-lovers, micro genre snobs, and digital deconstructionists, look away! -- and it was a darn good time. Fluffy fun? Yes. Cheesy hip hop? Perhaps. Sugary pop? Sometimes. But who cares? They're solid party tunes.
The DJs were Team Canada, a duo from Montreal that know how to rock a party. And tonight they will grace the decks at Volar. In addition to DJing, DR One and Grandtheft have done remix work for the likes of Chromeo, Kardinal Offishall and Lupe Fiasco, and have been putting out albums in their Classic Material series (Shanghaiist is a bad Canadian, we haven't heard any of these.)
But for the Canucks out there -- and friends of other nationalities cuz, y'know, us Canadians are all friendly and inclusive like that -- come out and show some support tonight. We can celebrate Canada Day together...10 days early.
Team Canada @ Volar (99 Yandang Lu near Nanchang Lu). No cover for members and guest list. RMB 150 for non-members (includes one Belvedere and Grand Marnier cocktail). For information, contact reservations@volar.com.cn or 134 822 39390.

The one on the left is pointing twice - does that mean he is doubly cool?
Shout outs to the lovely Panthea, from Toronto! :)
