(Wan Xiao Li at the Beer & Rock Festival)
This weekend gets off to a fast start, with some good, old, epic metal from Chun Qiu, a Beijing band that has a strong following up north, playing at 4Live. Other than that, Friday is a little quiet on the live music front, so take this chance to go get sloshed on free drinks at all the brand launch parties happening around town.
Saturday rolls out the music early with another afternoon concert at the ENO clothing store on Changle Road. Boys Climbing Ropes, Huhumama's and Hard Queen will lay down some tasty tunes (been watching too much Tenacious D) while chugging back plenty of the free beer ENO always seems to have laying around. Oh, and we heard from a little bird that ENO finally invested in some sound equipment, fixing that pesky microphone problem. If you just can't get enough of those Boys Climbing Ropes don't fret, besides ENO, these boys will also be playing two more shows Saturday at both 4Live with the Dropkicks and Yuyintang with Ferris Wheel and Flying Fruit.
Surprisingly, the most exciting shows are happening Sunday. Jennifer Gentle an artist on venerable record label Sub pop brings her eclectic indie sound to Absolute House. While Wan Xiao Li, a well known Chinese folk singer who incorporates Tuvian throat singing into his songs will be at 4Live.
