Scratch-ing your eyes out

Learn more about this project

This is a simple chasing game we developed in Scratch to celebrate this summer's street dramas between cyclists and Shanghainese traffic attendants. You are the bicycle trying to keep away from JingJing the famous Net policewoman, who is trying to serve you with a fine for riding on the wrong side of the road. You can move the bicycle in different directions by pressing the different cursor keys.

Scratch is a great free application developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to teach children how to develop video games and web animations without having to write progamming code. It uses a jigsaw as a metaphor for different parts of the program, making software very easy to develop. Think of it as a cross between Logo, Macromedia Flash and virtual lego.

If you have plenty of time to kill, then why not download Scratch and start making your own Shanghai or China themed video games. Here are a few ideas you might like to pursue:

  1. Spiderman climbs Jinmao

  2. Climbing over the Great Firewall

  3. Rescuing slave workers

Why don't you send us your ideas or links to your own Scratch projects?
