The Year of the Pig has brought with it many pig-related problems it seems. Reports have surfaced that Beijing police have raided a village where live pigs were force-fed wastewater to boost their weight ahead of a trip to the slaughterhouse. According to the AP report:
Plastic pipes had been forced down the pigs’ throats and villagers had pumped each 100 kilogram pig with 20 kilograms of wastewater… Paperwork found at site showed the pigs were headed for one of the city’s top slaughterhouses and stamps on their ears indicated that they had already been through quarantine and inspection, the [Beijing Morning Post] said.
Even with this news and the recent scandal of cats and dogs dying in North America from Chinese pet food, as well as the discovery of diethylene glycol, or DEG, a chemical often found in antifreeze, in toothpaste, guess what Wang Xinpei, a spokesman for the Commerce Ministry, was quoted by AP as saying in another report:
“It can be said that the quality of China’s exports ALL are guaranteed.” [Emphasis from Shanghaiist]
We suggest that Wang be given some media training before he faces the media the next time. Dude, if you want to sound more convincing, refrain from using the word ALL!
