I don't understand why this heroic story has elicited some negative comments on this board. What people talk about anonymously on internet board is usually BS (check all the brainless comments on US online discussion groups). What is real about this story is some (rich) guy sacrificed his life to save a girl.

Comments like that made by the armchair commanders who take a smoke break between hours of WoW at the local WangBa and log-on to news sites to impart their share of morality on the rest of society. Funny how I remember a similar answer to a question I once asked a Chinese person about the Aids problem: "China already has enough people" In all fairness he was a bit outnumbered, and if you've ever seen a straight up Chinese street fight it consists of random arms spasms and neck grabbing, so I don't think there was much of a chance.

Factually speaking, China has less community spirit and care for a neighbour and selflessness than in western countries. However, if this man had a child then that would mean an element of stupidity, but of course in that exact moment he proved he was courageous. Innocent people trying to help others do sometimes pay for it with their own life. This is what deters other people from then helping others. If thought about, no one would rather they die and their family suffer so that a stranger can live.

How can one be said to have died in vain when attempting rescue or to save one's life ??? A whole society mimicking emotions and morales and totally blinded by moneey and power... Pathetic... If that's so, and I hope it's not, I guess those same netizens can stop asking themselves how the Shanxi slave scandal could have happened. Morally vacant and corrupt societies with no regard for each other or human dignity should really expect that kind of thing.
