Oh, could we arrange an early season Houston vs. Milwaukee game just to see Yao bulldoze Yi?

At least Yao made a big effort to improve his game and there aren't the crop of centers that existed 10 years ago.

Guy looks embarrassing in his scouting videos. No upper body strength, can't post, no turnaround moves, plays in the amateur-hour CBA. He's a late first round pick.

Yao Ming gets goodwill because (I guess) people think it's funny to see a Chinaman playing basketball, rather than a love of sullen skinny centers who get injured a lot and never make it past the first round. Yi isn't the first Chinese player, will be playing in fucking Milwaukee, and won't be as good as Yao. Don't expect to see a "Year of the Yi Jianlian."

ESPN's scouting report compares him to Toni Kukoc. Ouch.

Anyway, it'll be kind of interesting to see how far Yi wants to push this Milwaukee thing. As the 7th pick behind Oden and Durant, he's hardly in a position to dictate his whereabouts. And bad-mouthing Milwaukee (small time city with no Chinese people!) and the Bucks is hardly a way to get off on the right foot with the US advertisers he so dearly wants to do business with. Also, it's fun to note that the Bucks owner is a very senior US Senator who probably doesn't like that kind of talk very much, either.

This is an investment in marketing, not in talent. Will the Milwaukee Bucks basketball stadium we awash with Chinese advertising?

Oh and he sure is ugly.

He'll crack like thin ice, this is just a publicity stunt to sell jerseys. He'll start a few games, get thoroughly humiliated by other big men and a few quick footed guards then spend the rest of his contract riding pine.
