Podcasts are great for news programming and they are usually free. I like BBC, NPR, Boing Boing, CNET and the TWIT network. There's a gap in the market for a decent local audio or video podcast.

In addition, the Economist (while they DO deliver weekly to Shanghai) has also put every issue of it's magazine in audio format. You can find it here: http://www.talkingissues.com/Default.aspx?alias=www.talkingissues.com/economist

It's also a great way to hear news programing!

Audiobooks are absolute lifesavers for long drives. I wouldn't have been able to complete the 11 hour drive to Colorado without Jon Stewart's "America: The Book, The Audiobook" with me.
