  • "Comfort women" museum opens in Shanghai
    The country's first-ever museum dedicated to "comfort women" opened to the public on Friday at Shanghai Normal University. The archive, which tells the stories of the sex slaves kept by Japanese soldiers during World War II, was expected to greet some 300 visitors a day on its opening weekend.

    Two young migrant workers drowned yesterday while swimming in Xintiandi's man-made lake, despite rescue efforts.

  • PetroChina plans oil base in Xinjiang
    PetroChina plans to build a commercial crude oil reserve base in Shanshan County, Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, a company source said on Friday. The company plans to invest 6.5 billion yuan ($844 million) in the project, which will have a storage capacity of 8.1 million cubic meters, according to the source.
