Excusez moi?! Excusez tu!

Shanghaiist grudgingly attended the "Excusez Moi" launch party at Bar Rouge last night, a new monthly concept that brings "a unique sensual-chic experience to Shanghai’s nightlife scene." While we weren't exactly "swept away by a wave of sensuality," there were a couple of guys without shirts there. Oh yeah, and a girl in a bra! Naturally, we could hardly control ourselves at this "Red Hot" event with all our "deepest fantasies" come true. This was Shanghaiist's first time at Bar Rouge, but sadly, the best thing we have heard about it, the balcony and view of the Bund, was closed off that evening. Probably to protect the locals from raunchy foreigners. Luckily, we weren't roofied at all, and the women seemed to refrain from doing strange things with champagne bottles, despite the ad's encouragements. (Apologies for the blurriness in some pics, we're still figuring out our new camera!)

Ah, for the good ole' days of wonderfully seedy slumming on Maoming Road. At least the less than 'beautiful people' were welcome then.

This city's ever expanding glam scene seems to have become painfully shallow, completely stand-offish and 'fabulously' over-the-top. Such is the pitfalls of rapid economic development.

I think it's fair to say that Shanghai--once a genuinely adventurous and captivating city--has jumped the shark.

*Jumping the shark is a metaphor used to describe the moment when a television show or similar episodic medium is in retrospect judged to have passed its "peak" and shows a noticeable decline in quality. "Jumping the shark" also describes other areas of pop culture, such as music and celebrities, for whom a drastic change was the beginning of the end.

Nothing has changed.

People are always just as pretentious, they just go to different places.

People always think that when they arrived at a place/city it was 'unique' and 'genuine', and then they moan that it 'changed'. Which is obviously immature and incorrect.

It's pathetic when people say 'once upon a time maoming was so cool' - no it wasn't! You were just brand new to Sh.

'The old Tang Hui was so cool!' - no it wasn't, it was small and sad and repetitive.

Places sell alcohol and play music.

Nice, another place full of male and female prostitutes!

Guest #1 - did you look at the pictures? Obviously the "less than beautiful people" are still welcome.

Anyway ugly people and lots of hookers:

1) Isn't most people's idea of "genuinely adventurous and captivating."
2) Is still fucking everywhere in Shanghai.
3) A $300 flight to Thailand takes you to the ugly men+hookers Mecca.

Come on, Guest 4, lots of us bedded down some pretty good looking people on Maoming Road for free back in the day.

And, Guest 2, you say that "People always think that when they arrived at a place/city it was 'unique' and 'genuine', and then they moan that it 'changed'. Which is obviously immature and incorrect."

Huh? A bit murky here, eh?

Can yo clarify as to why Guest 1's statements are "obviously immature and incorrect."

Perhaps your assertion is better suited to your own comments.
