Dead, dead, dead weekend in live music

These are definitely the dog days of summer and as in summers past, live shows have dried up with the heat. Ironically enough Shanghaiist has chosen to skip town and head to even hotter Hong Kong where PK-14, Hedge Hog, New Pants and the Re-tros will be playing in the cramped but intimate Fringe Club on Sunday.

For those of you stuck in Shanghai and hankering for some live music check out Etienne (Gypsy Jazz Guitarist) at Labella's cafe every Friday night or the new Blender night at 4Live. Boys Climbing Ropes fresh off a much needed vacation will be at Bon Bon on Sunday. Blues bar Cotton and Jazz Club JZ are also nice alternatives to Shanghai's uber plastic club scene. Speaking of which, the one show not to be missed is DJ Steve Aoki who will be playing at Volar this Saturday. Founder of kick ass indie music label Dim Mak (any one remember Pretty Girls Make Graves?) and a super hip street wear label of the same name, Steve Aoki deserves a nod.
