Photo of the Day: 1000 days to the Shanghai Expo!

expocountdown.jpg
Shanghai marks the 1,000 day countdown to the 2010 World Expo today at the Urban Planning Exhibition Center on People's Square. 158 countries, regions and international organizations have confirmed their participation in the 184-day event, which begins on May 1, 2010. One day admission tickets to the show are expected to cost 160yuan each, but organisers will set different prices for different times of the day to balance the flow of the 70 million visitors expected to attend.

Photo from Laurence Shan, and yes this photo is 483 days old!

Don't underestimate China's ability to overestimate itself.

don't ever underestimate China, even though we sometimes like to overstate ourselves

2005 Expo Aichi Japan had 21 million visitors.

Who knows how many will attend!

We have to remember that it is not easy for chinese to visit other countries, this is why attractions such as Windows of the World in Shenzhen are so popular.

So i think the attraction to see other countries pavilions and therefore other countries in some form will have a big impact on the number of local visitors. Also China is becoming the No.1 destination for many tourists so i think some people will place this in their itinerary.

Does anyone even care about the expo? besides the government that is

70 million visitors? Roughly half a million per day? Who comes up with this estimate? That's extreme wishful thinking unless they expect 99.9% to be Chinese visitors which would still be quite a stretch.

china uses police and even military cars produced locally but under foreign brands as well...

So the photo is 483 days old? Ok. Interesting that they used Seiko clocks. I would have thought nationalistic pride would force the use of locally produced timepieces.
