It is time you got Carsick.
This week we profile yet another band from up north (Beijing). The band, Carsick Cars, is known for being the ones handpicked by Sonic Youth to open for them in Beijing. What brought Carsick even more attention was the fact the Chinese government decided to step in a few hours before the curtains fell and pull them from the lineup. To make up for it, Sonic Youth is having Carsick flown to Europe for 3 shows this month. And well, who in the hell are we to argue with SY's choice in bands?
Shanghaiist was able to catch one of the shows of the indie band with shoe-gazer leanings in Beijing last year. Though not the best show we have ever seen, the band wasn't half bad and the song Zhong Nan Hai (中南海) is catchy enough to have you singing about the government compound of the same name, all day long. The band is currently working on their debut album, due out later this year and self financed.
This weekend Carsick Cars will be in town with fellow Beijing band Snapline for shows at 4Live (Friday) and ENO (Saturday).
So take your motion sickness pills and get in the car, Shanghai is about to be taken on a wild ride.
