Zhang Qianqian, Subs, NF-G and the Summer Music Conference

As yet another weekend descends upon Shanghai, we have been contemplating what shows to report and why. Simple fact; if someone takes the time to tell us about it, then we will almost always take the time to write about it (unless it really sucks).

Friday nights have been slow of late, with the more interesting shows competing with each other for crowds on Saturday. But, not this Friday.

Dream Factory after splitting with Yuyintang is still holding shows and tonight Beijing indie/pop punk band Self Portrait will take the stage to promote the release of their new album. Across town, at Live Bar in Yangpu, former model turned indie music darling, Zhang Qianqian will be captivating audiences with both her looks and unique voice. Another act we have been itching to see is Jimmy Graham (every Friday at Piccone), who is supposedly an amazing blues guitarist. If Friday night doesn't have the action you are craving, then prepare for a very loud Saturday.

It is a night for the headbangers and moshers. Metalheads should head out to Live bar where Nuclear Fusion-G will let loose a heavy set of metal. While at 4Live the Subs, legendary for their mosh-tastic shows, will be pumping out their hardcore punk tunes. Whatever Saturday night show you choose, prepare to lose a little more of your hearing.

Damn it, we almost forgot! This weekend stretching from the 24th-26th, Dino Beach, will host the inaugural summer music conference. A gathering (less talking more performing) of independent promoters, record labels, bands and djs. Expect stellar sets by the Antidote crew, Phreakerton, Caster Dance, Dragon Dance Studio, the Honeys, Tag Team records and a hell of a lot more. The party starts daily at 3pm and will go late into the evening. Unfortunately we haven't been able to get our hands on the performance schedule...but with good music, a wave machine and water slides, what more could you want (besides a cold drink and sunscreen)?
