Fueling the live music rumor mills

Shanghaiist finally made it back from the Beijing Pop Festival and had a great time. We give respect to the organizers bringing some great international bands to China, but do recognize that this festival has a lot of logistical and organizational flaws to work out before it can claim to be of global standards. Being great at weaseling our way into places we don't exactly belong, Shanghaiist was able to get on stage during the Marky Ramone set which was all the more exciting by the presence of Joe and Dave of the Queers on guitar and bass. The Queers are excited about a China tour that might happen next year.

While backstage we got a chance to talk with some of the Public Enemy members. They were completely baffled by the rumors surrounding their Shanghai show, and said the band always has internal conflicts, but that it never interferes with their gigs. So the mystery continues, what ever happened to their (supposed) Shanghai show?

In other news we are hearing Yacht might be added to the already impressive Yue Festival lineup. While there are rumors that Napalm Death may be canceled, no shows appear to have been rubbed out of their web pages/blogs yet.

Just before posting this we got word that starting in October, 4Live might be moving away from doing rock shows on the weekend and focusing more on party themed events. This is still being confirmed, but lets pray there isn't any truth in this rumor.
