as an update, I must have been to the Blues Room 6 or 7 times since it opened. It's a great, great place to hear musicians that can really, and I mean really play. The food's good, the drinks are very reasonable (where other live music cluc does an ordinary pint for 30rmb and a pint of hoegaarden for 50rmb?) If you have even a passing interest in how well professionals can play, you need to go.

nice to see the usual positive Shanghai ex-pat attitude! I reckon it sounds like a good place in a handy location, but what do I know.

Enjoyed watching the locals sing 'Mustang Sally' with the band, Some sit-in drummer from Long Island crashed the drums so hard on a 'Stones' tune the real drummer freaked about his cymbals breaking. Good fun and great food.

i just hope the brand of tripe they serve is a step-up from JZ. seriously, JZ is crap. a bunch of losers sitting around trying to be cool. and the musicians leave a lot to be desired ... how many years have they all been there now!

I think it's a decent concept....but why on God's earth do live music venues feel they have to start so f***ing late!???? Honestly, I'd dig a little live music for happy hour, but I'm not a late owl and I suspect most of their target audience is not the late-party-type-group (blues music, southern soul food....).

at least they are writing about something newsworthy and not their best friends new Blue Frog opening in Macau where they got a free meal and casino chips...
