We've just been made aware of a new daily (well, almost) vod-cast called The Shanghai Show. Hosted by Aric Queen who used to contribute to this blog, it features interesting snippets of daily life in Shanghai from the People's Square, inside some Shanghainese guy's new home, the Jingan area to the Jiashan wet market. Today's show, however, takes the cake (yes, literally). As advised by the producers, only those with really STRONG stomachs should proceed. Our friends from Danwei will be elated to know what we're doing with our Toilet Bowl Award. We still want the award next year, you know.

Week Around the Ists

Gosh, keep it clean - some one might eat that corn hole in the future!
animals
animals? More cheap shots and insults from shanghaiists and Kenneath Tan.
not sure how that's Kenneth's fault - he only posted it.
and how is this a cheap shot when it's something we see everyday? someone finally just had a camera ready.
'animals' does come to mind...note that last scene with the girl and the mom at the bus stop!
Complete animals. Worse than animals.
What's more beautiful than a tender virginal asshole shining in the glory of morning sunlight? I'd love to stick my tongue in it and give it a good swirl!
And I get so much crap about my "China bashing"!
It isn't just car exhaust you are breathing in!
Now how is Hu going to "harmonize" this activity?
Bad, dirty, publicly defficating China.
This has nothing to do with being Chinese. Do you see Singaporeans behaving like that? Hong Kongers? The people in that video are deranged.
Singaporeans are Singaporeans, HKers are HKers, Chinese are Chinese.
Bad, filthy China.
The little guy is not circumcised! Some one please call the doctor!
ha ha ha - am glad to see someone posted this video. people didnt believe me when I told them this happened every day.
this has nothing to do with no money for diapers or culture, it's simple disregard for anyone else.
you see this same attitude when it comes to driving, standing in line, etc.
sick.
and this is supposed to be the new world superpower?
Come on guys, this is done in a much more "civilized" fashion in a classy city like Shanghai. In a village, they'll have the dogs lick the ass clean and eat the shit too. Talking about hard core recycling!
What are all this complaints about? Everyone must poo, so whether you are in Shanghai streets waiting for a bus or in some luxury penthouse on a desert isle in the carribean chillin' with all kinds of honeys, it doesn't make any difference: you still gotta poo, so please quit pretending to be grossed-out, get yourself a pair of poo-hole pants and embrace it!
There are all sorts of fun and creative places you can poo in Shanghai. You just gotta use your noodle!
"get yourself a pair of poo-hole pants and embrace it!"
What a great idea for a Halloween costume!
"get yourself a pair of poo-hole pants and embrace it!"
What a great idea for a Halloween costume:
arm warmers, a cheap ass jacket with a big label on it and some poo-holers!
Top it off with fake Playboy dress shoes and you are slicker than greased ice.
I did some research and it turned out a common practice all over the world especially in the US. Check it out here:

Home sick anyone?
shanghaiist should really take note and consider making these trousers for the masses.
Well, it's common practice in China and seems the trends is catching on in the US as well. ‘Diaper-free babies’ fad swells, despite critics.
On top of that, it seems also diaper is bad for the environment. See “The Environmental Impact of Diapers”
It's easy to take cheap shot on this but, extrapolate the impact of some 50 millions Chinese babies starting to use diaper, global warming doesn't look half as bad.
#18, apparently you didn't read the article, potty training at home is far different from what we are seeing here.
Diapers are bad for the environment, but so is human waste scattered all over the place.
Before disposable diapers, there were cloth diapers where completely reusable for long periods of time. How about reverting back to those?
#18 - How is this a cheap shot? If this is something being done in the back of one's yard, then fine. We're talking about sh*tting in the middle of the street - in a country dependant on street food, and you're talking gwarming?
How is this different from having dogs peeing and pooing on the street? I think the sanitary argument here is bogus. The kids are not doing anything that dogs are not doing. How many dogs with diapers are there on the streets? From the video, they do clean up the pooh. If we are going to argue this on the sanitary ground, shouldn't the dogs be prohibited from defecating on the streets as well? Or get them some diapers.
the fact that you're comparing kids to dogs supports the original argument.
dogs also hump pillows.
If the kid doesn't shit, isn't this just child pornography? Great, add one more to list of charges that made me move here in the first place.
Great now the adults are doing it too! Thanks China!
Here's the proof:

#21 - In New York City and many other parts of the US, dog owners are in fact required to clean up after their dogs.

bad, dirty, public poo China.
Not all China is polluted as Shanghai, there's some nice places like Hangzhou and Shaoxing or even Nanjing, they have nice envoirment. But I agree, shanghai sucks. Shanghai is nice to live for a year NOT 7, like I did lol
