We're in Beijing now, in the midst of a dual mother and mother-in-law China visit (the first for both) ... which explains why we were unable to attend the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' gig at the Modern Sky Festival here in the nation's capital yesterday. A YouTube user named zasieia was there, however, and he/she posted a video of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs performing "Honeybear" (or at least part of it). The video is embedded in this post.
Our being in Beijing means we are not at Shanghai's Yue Festival ... right now. If you went to either the Modern Sky or Yue (Beijing or Shanghai) let us know how it was in a comment. Better yet, post a link to a vid or sound clip.

Week Around the Ists

Yue Festival report:
Talib Kwali was amazing - but stuck with a poor time slot. (Really? 4pm?)
Super VC was the best of the local bands, with a "Killers" vibe - especially with the ties and jackets. Good sound.
Yacht was strange, but in a good way. I can't imagine he has a big following in the US, but maybe he does.
Ozomatli tore it up - great great party band and for a little bit made me feel like I was back home. Viva la Raza! Odelay!
Faithless? Dull. Dull. Dull.
In a more general sense, we had a great time - especially since, compared to abroad, it wasn't that crowded. You could stretch out, nap in the grass, draw on some shoes, get a beverage, didn't have to wait for the toilets. I hope the organizers raised good money for Roots + Shoots, and just as importantly made it financially viable to do again next year.

a lot of pics! have fun!
Great day in the park, some brilliant performances too. Faithless were good, imo, but not great. Ozomatli rocked, Yacht was ace. The local dudes trying to be homies is simply hilarious, the MCs were woeful too... drop the homie act, it's bullshit.
Only small lines for food and drink and toilets too, bonus. Roots and shoots staff were lots of fun :)
Good job organisers, build on this for next year! :oD
