As you may have guessed I was talking about the Blues Room. I guess I should lay off the Glen Morangie until a little later in the evening...

A recommendation for Motown where the dartboard is made out of plastic, they play Karaoke DVDs, bar girls hassle you for drinks and one small bottle of TsingTao is 40RMB (so even the two-for-one isn't a good deal)...

...and yet the best new place in town looks "uninspiring" so isn't worth a look in- wow.

Haven't been to Abbey Road at night in a while, but they have one of the best breakfasts in town, in my opinion. Check it out.

If you like really good 50s style New York City trio jazz you ought to get over it and head on in. Its drums, bass and keys with the occasional chantuese. The players are top shelf. You see a lot of people playing this style without much passion but these guys can reeeeeally play. Its well worth the price of admission, FREE, and then some. Coolest vibe that I've seen in Shanghai, not an ego fest or snooze-a-thon like some of the other jazz hangouts I've been to in this little town of big heads.

The band starts at 10PM and they finish up at 4 with a jam session starting at 1 if you've got the stones (that's cojones for you Californianos). Winopete, maybe you're in your pots and headed for bed before they get rolling. I haven't tried the soul food yet, but it looks great on the other folks' plates and is reasonably priced. The cocktails are very authentic if just a bit dear. You really should go back and give them some good publicity instead of this backhand slap... It beats the hell out of the rest of Tongren Lu and Shanghai needs more late night hangouts with good talented live musicians.
