@fjiofojif;

I more or less stumbled into it. It started with a bunch of academics and former military people and a couple of Chinese guys peacefully discussing China's "peaceful rise" and I managed to pry the Chinese guys into opening up about how they considered the western man to be foolish and how China would reclaim its rightful place, all would kowtow, etc.
You know how locals can go on about that stuff.

The others were shocked to say the least. Those kinds of opinions were unknown to anyone who had not lived in China and even those that visited and hung out in hotel bars (yet somehow had enough knowledge to write those long winded and completely empty China books).

I'm cool as a cucumber my man! This fool is just such an insufferable ass and I get tired of all the attempted personal insults. Nana must be taught not to talk that way about 'Elvis'!

More projection from the grinch... er, grouch. You really ought to see about getting some counseling nana. You definitely seem more than a bit obsessive about the sex thing. If you really are interested, my name relates to a famous architectural and art movement of the early 20th century. One would imagine that someone with a Masters working on a PHD might have heard of it. Maybe the advanced degrees are from the University of Rohan?

Like most of your opinions you are incorrect about what I think though I am glad to see that my scolding has kept you from inserting (hahaha!...get it?) your usual juvenile sexual innuendo into this particular comment. My take on the effect of your postings is that they are the equivalent of farting into a force 4 gale, they may deeply satisfy the farter but what effect do they have in the big wide world?

I think Less is jealous of the effect of my postings throughout the blogosphere.

@Mojo

"Linkin Park was in Shanghai last night. Based on their last album and the concert last night, they didn't hold back on those expletives."

Out of the locals that were there, how many could understand the lyrics enough to understand the swearing, and swearing doesn't always translate well if at all. And swearing has nothing to do with social or political topics.

More pithy, or should I say pissy, wisdom from self appointed China expert nanahey! Is there a rhetorical reason that most of your witty responses allude to sex or is it a subconscious neurotic reflex?

CWCC- Your comment, "I know you are, but what am I!," baffles me. (Warning!! Irony ahead!) Just by word count alone I'm kicking nanahey's sorry ass.

I've been too busy these days to throw up a post or on Shanghaiist, but when I saw this post, I had to make a comment.

I've been one of the fortunate (or unfortunate, depending on how you see it) posters on Shanghaiist to recieve a "nanheyangrouchan comment". You can see 'em here:

http://shanghaiist.com/2006/10/12/its_official_ja.php
http://shanghaiist.com/2006/09/20/from_marcy_to_h.php

Nanheyangrouchuan is a pretty good reader and debater. Yes, his comments can be insulting, but that's if you write something to let him be insulting. He offers fresh and real views with a bit of harshness. It's different.

By the way, nanheyangrouchuan, Linkin Park was in Shanghai last night. Based on their last album and the concert last night, they didn't hold back on those expletives. Is China lightening up it's censorship hand? Hmmm... after watching Lust Caution at the theatres... maybe not...

Keep up the good work, Shanghaiist and keep those comments coming, naheyangrouchan.

"I know you are, but what am I!"

This is getting ridiculous. Lez Izmore should follow his own advice and think about these things less. You're avatar suits your comments almost perfectly -- you only need to add some steam coming out of your ears.

As for nanahey, does he work with a think tank? I'd guess it's possible, but I'd also guess that if true it's in an informal capcity over the internet. But I really have no idea, nor do I care.

Anyone want to discuss the content of this interview? Never!

"did you just wake up hung over, horny and rejected by a talking bar girl"

     Now THATS projection!! Getting rejected by a bar girl takes some work. Nanhey you must be one smooth talkin' laowai lothario.

     I have absolutely no problem with free speech. I wish they weren't in the process of dismantling it in my own country. I think an old saying that applies here is keep your mouth closed and be thought a fool, open your mouth and prove it. What we now know about him (her?) is that he/she's an anonymous opinionated putz who learned about projection in Psych 101 and believes the Chinese government is bad bad bad (a belief that may well be shared by a majority of the Chinese population). Also East Turkestan and Tibet are subjugated countries overrun by bad foreigners. How does he/she feel about Aztlan? (Hint...It's not a place in The Lord of the Rings or Star Wars and he/she lives there.)
     Truthfully my comments weren't ever aimed at him/her because weak brained egoists like nanahey can never have their 'unique' and 'deeply held' opinions changed by ridicule or rational argument. Opinions are by their nature unassailable and the village idiot thinks he's a brilliant comic. The comment is to help the other folks who might have an open mind that's susceptible to his/her authoritatively delivered wankery realize what drivel he/she is spitting out. He/she doesn't upset me at all. I love it when self important dorks like him/her freely provide such ripe opportunities to point out how pathetic and stupid they truly are. He/she's hit a grand slam homer on that count.
     Here's my favorite part of the in depth interview with the keyboard crusader with the “mysterious allure” ...

"The level of emotion I generate in the blogosphere clearly demonstrates that I am no troll. Elvin Ranger maybe, but no troll."

     Can you say emotionally stunted geek boy? Weak shit indeed. Standing astride the blogosphere like a modern Jeremiah trumpeting the harsh truth for the unwashed masses...truly a pathetic entity whoever he/she is.

i used to dislike nanhe until i became a china-hater myself. still i refrain from commenting on blogs, mostly because i refrain from reading them. really, life is too short to be caring blog comments.

i used to get bent out of shape about stuff like this, but luckily i suffer from chronic depression
so now I got better stuff to worry about!

Freedom of speech: in the end, that's what matters. so let the man speak.

I don't think the interview is a fluff piece: not everyone in the world is interesting, but there's a sizeable percentage of people whose interestingness is often underestimated. I've always been curious about who this nanhe character was, and now I know a little bit about him. and that works for me.

Wow, mention the word "projecting" and you really fly off the seat. Or did you just wake up hung over, horny and rejected by a talking bar girl and so I'm the luck recipient of your affections?

I say what I say, and people in the China blogosphere have their opinions and I leave it at that.

You think that weak outburst will stop me?

You're pathetic. You traffic in juvenile insults and then expect to be taken seriously. Paying this much attention to people winding you up on a fluff piece interview on a a local Shanghai blog truly reveals your deep seated need for public exposure. You think you are an intellectual? You think you are a scholar? They gave you this interview because you are a joke. You are a caricature of the China hating westerner and you're so dumb you don't even know that we're all laughing at you. In your own small mind your made up facts are stirring the pot of intellectual discourse across the world of the blogosphere. Nobody who has any real knowledge about China takes your ideas seriously. You're so myopic, self obsessed and stupid that all you can do is wait for your RSS feed to ping you so you drop yet another pathetic one sentence monosyllabic schoolboy insult. I'm sure you're being well paid by the invisible 'think tank' that employs you... I'm also sure pigs fly out your ass... I've seen your postings on blogs for a long time and I gotta say, dude your shit is really weak. That post about Public Enemy was not too far off the mark though...

To be honest, the Chinese government hates receiving anything from us foreign devils that isn't 1.) money and 2.) advanced technology.

Apparently, they like the freebies too. But even it comes for free they still don't seem to want any advice on how to improve the environment. Take the fact that the Peace Corps program here included an Environmental Education up until 2005 when they did away with it completely and just turned it into 100% TEFL. Now, I'm not saying it's entirely the local gov't's doing that led to the dissolution of the EE program, because evidently teaching Environmental Education ended up in most cases being more like "Green" English and volunteers were kept plenty distant from any projects that could have created any sort of lasting impact.

Hopefully someday the people in charge here will get over their "face" complex and realize that it might not be such a bad thing to let foreigners help out in the places that really need it.

EL JEFE;

The PLA and CCP don't come knocking on the CEO's or owner's door late at night demanding a piece of the pie. But if said company managers bring their company to a certain level of success and want the necessary/desired licenses and access to Beijing's wallet, they need to hand over a red envelope of stock certificates. And both the CCP and PLA are allowed to buy stock in Chinese companies.

Good interview, although I know that you are wrong about PLA and CCP owning at least 10% of every private company. Makes me wonder what other "facts" make it through the filter because people don't question your air of authority.
