China has laws but no enforcement because the country is run by and full of barbaric mongrels who simply poop, pee and puke in public in addition to joyfully beating helpless animals to death.

Sick, bad, dirty, worthless China.

Not really necessary to state the obvious. Have to assume you obtained some form of joy from writing it.

Kenneth Tan, although this story makes me sick, thanks for airing it. The world is full of dirtbag bastards like the one beating the dog in this video. I think China probably has more than it's "fair share" of these bastards - largely because animal rights is not a topic of concern here. Trouble is, China doesn't even have laws that could be applied if people actually did apply laws here.

There is hope however. I gather that many Chinese are protesting this particular breech of humanity? I think consideration of animals is beginning to take hold among young urban Chinese and the educated. I hope this humanitarian trend continues because Gandhi was right - you can judge a country and a culture by how it treats its defenseless animals.

Well, when you consider that migrant workers in major cities are treated as cannon fodder and that people hurt in accidents are simply street entertainment, it shouldn't surprise anyone that animals are treated in such a way.

Gee I sure would like to put my boots down her throat and slam that bimbo against the wall. These freaks belong behind bars. to kill pups by stepping all over them until dead.plain simple idots on video.

We have already seen example upon example of the savage and brutal nature of the Chinese, who are without compassion and beyond the humane treatment of animals or for that matter any living being. There are several film clips included in the link that are illustrative of this. With all their economic progress China remains a socially backward and primitive nation made up of hardened, cruel and sadistic individuals with no scruples or ethics; they are driven only by greed and their lust for power and money. The scandals surrounding deadly pet food ingredients, toxic elements in children's toys, poisoned food, intentional mislabeling of dog and cat fur as "faux fur", the inhumane imprisonment of moon bears who live sad and tortured for their bile, the raising of tigers to be slaughtered for their paws and penises, the skinning alive of animals for their pelts...the list is endless. The civilized world should shun this hideous, savage hellhole!

How low do we as humans have to sink, before we realise what beasts we are in a world full of animals who never ever will have thought about doing such cruel things to a animal called human???

Shame on China! One of the oldest and most complex civilizations on earth, and this is the best the modern country can do? Where have the humanist values gone?

Add to this brutality the pet food scandal, the lack of imported food safety, and the safety of other products, China is going to end up crashing-- which is what its behavior deserves...

Not all Chinese are like this, but where are the ones who know better? Why do we not hear their voices?

God help this country!

No words can express what I feld....this poor dog is murderd.... WHY....what creature can do such a cruel thing...!!!!

This only shows the absolute -ignorance- of these people.

No truer statement can be said: "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." Mohandas Gandi

Someone else mentioned them crashing and burning and I certainly hope that the younger, smarter generation can help save their country. If they continue is this vein their products will go unsold throughout the world. I know that I do not purchase anything at all that says "made in China", not only for their treatment of animals, but because I have no idea what I am purchasing and if it is safe or not.

Shame on these people for allowing this barbarism to continue in 2007. The person that hurt this dog should go to prison for a very, very long time.

Perhaps someone will bestow upon them the kindness that they showed to the innocent dog.

All Life Is Sacred, and I would not wish to take that of this Murderer! However, I believe that this crime needs to be punished severely, and the perpetrator be rehabilitated so that he no longer abuses Animals. At least we should give this person the proper punishment for this heinous murder of a defenseless Dog!

I wonder that some day these people could aceppt that animals feel like any human being. This is not the only example of brutality and sadism. That conduct denigrates to the people who carry out it.

My god, I hope anybody who has read the above posts will read this one. Ok, first of all, China is a country composed of 1.3 BILLION different people. This video shows one, just one, of those 1.3 billion. The fact that the country of China contains one evil, dog-beating bastard, does not meant that the rest of the country is backward or its people ignorant. The judgmental comments I just read make me sick. Should we judge all Americans based on the Columbine shooters? Should we assume every white man is crazy based on the actions of Timothy McVeigh? Jeffery Dommer? Should we conclude that the United States is composed of crazy, serial-murdering loonies? No, we shouldn't those were isolated incidents perpetrated a few crazy individuals. Now on to the next point, chastising everyone who did nothing is an appropriate response, but hardly isolated to China. Anybody who reads a major metropolitan paper knows that there are countless cases of people beating other people in the streets. In many of these cases, nobody does a thing. Just recently I read an article of some crazy youths in Portland beating not a dog, but a senior citizen after he exited a bus. He was placed in critical condition after the incident. There were witnesses, nobody did a thing. I read another article recently, of two Portland youths dropping a kitten in a scalding bath tub, and then cutting its head of an throwing over a fence. The youths were Americans. Let me tell you one more story a little of the topic. In the not too distant past, a car manufacturer learned that a particular model of car had a gas tank that was likely to explode upon a rear-end collision, subsequently shooting gas inside of the car and burning alive those inside. Faced with this information, the car company chose to release the car despite the problem, calculating that the aggregate of the settlements and jury verdicts would cost less than a recall of the automobile. This model of car killed many people in the manner described above. The care company was Ford. Be reasonable people. There are atrocities both personal and commercial happening in every major city and in the economy of every country in the world, to judge the people of such nations is ludicrous. Doing so would place you on a long lists of judged regardless of where you are from. Last I checked, the United States had more violent crime than just about any other developed nation in the world. The Anti-Chinese sentiment in these posts and in the United States is completely out of hand. If a country and its citizenry is guilty by association for the crimes an insane few, then all of our hands are covered in blood.

To Traylor67:

It's apparent that you don't know a lot about China. They treat their people the same way they do the dogs.

And about 6 months ago, they had /one/ case of rabies in a province. They proceeded to beat 50,000 dogs (all people's pets) to death in front of their owners. I know that they were going to do that same process in another province, but not sure if that came to pass.

In addition, they eat dogs and cats, so you can imagine how they view them, i.e., part of the food chain.

You can continue to defend them and spout the atrocities of the rest of the world, but the fact is that I don't trust anything they put on the market and it is my choice not to purchase anything made in China.

I hope that you are not purchasing toys made in China for your children.

Is this normal in China? Can you do that on humans in China too?, NO ofcourse not, only when you are sentiënt beïng who isn´t human, one may do ánything at all towards defenceless creature. What a fiesta for the cruel people that inhabit China, and what a sad policy for your whole country. We suggest that China reconsider to implement legislation that works preventive towards animaltorture and/or other animalabuse.
Without it it makes China look bad, cruel, and the footage show it in a sick demonic way, that is completely unfair to other Chinese people who are also there and exist with normal empathy towards other furry creatures of who whe share this planet with.
Hopefully this cultural shame that trives on your continent will turn to healthy standards one that is to be proud of.
This is a long way to go and should have been done many years ago, NO TIME TO WASTE! DO IT!

Another good reason to boycott China! Don't attend the Olympics. Don't purchase its products. These barbarians don't deserve to be part of the 21st century.

It's fo sho: Shanghaiist gets more hits for this sort of post.

Oh my God, this is very very horrible, such things should not exist !!!
I'm so sad to see that there's monsters like that !!!
I hope that someday it will stop !!!

Traylor67 obviously does not live in China, or is a newbie here. Animals are treated as raw materials by what seems to be the majority of people here, never mind if it is a companion animal (check out some of the horrid videos Shanghaiist has shown) or critically endangered (yum, tiger wee wee and whale shark).

Actually, humans are treated as raw materials by lots of Chinese - read up on how workers are treated in Chinese factories, migrant workers in the cities, or if you want to be really disgusted what was going on in Shanxi last summer in the kilns.

There are massive moral issues in China, and I for one would be curious to know if they are the end result of 5,000 years of development of this particular culture, or recent phenomena due to the horrific atrocities the Communist government (particularly Mao) masterminded over the past 50 years. Or if simply growing up in an Orwellian society that feeds its people a steady diet of propaganda and pap can warp minds to the degree that empathy for strangers and animals is impossible.

Are there people like this in the West / the rest of the world? Sure. Business leaders in America and Republicans seem to be cast from a similar mold. But they seem far rarer, and there are far more people of the complete opposite bent, who would go out of their way to help a stranger or a hurt animal.

Look, I'm not defending China as a country and I'm not defending the Chinese government. The predominant purpose of the my post was to point out that because people in a culture commit atrocities, or even if the government of that culture commits atrocities, does not mean that each and every individual citizen residing in said country commits atrocities. That seems to be the opinion of a lot of the people that have posted on this site.

I agree, Traylor67, even though I don't know shit about you. To everyone else: generalizations only show your own ignorance. If you don't like it, go to Russia.

For those people who think that supermarket meat is humane, you should go to a abattoir and see how f'king humane you are.

Meat is murder.

Btw, yes that guard should be report for killing that dog.

It's a dog. get over it. so many children in th eworld dying and starving and being murdered - where's the outcry over this?

You PETA loving tree huggers get a grip on reality.

Animals are lower on the foodchain and why should anyone care about a stupid dog in China?

It was gonna die one day soon anyway.

I regularly see comments on blogs lately that say to get over things and not to take it too seriously or too hard, because for whatever double agenda reason the maker of a video might have. I would like to make that up for myself, because I,m intelligent enough, so I don't need anyone to tell me what I should think of a video. Fact is that it's gruesome and action when possible should be taken. There are also chinese people who are worried about the circumstances in which these animals must live as we are. We certainly shouldn't forget this situation.
Drawing attention to another topic which is supposedly more important, is like bidding in an argument-contest. It's the same tactic when for example in a meeting a problem should be discussed, some else puts in: Well, that might be important, but how about this problem? You're not discussing but shoving it under the carpet that way. Remain on the subject, or else don't comment.

This is a barbaric act. Shame on China!!!!!
