For a second straight week Shanghaiist has missed our Friday deadline, oops. The good news is that Saturday is when all the really good stuff happens.
Today, eight Shanghai bands (1 from Beijing) will take part in the 0093 show at 4live, scheduled to start at 4:30pm. This should be a great showcase of the various genres of music that Shanghai bands have to offer, ranging from noise to metal to garage rock and everything in between. Look out for Torturing Nurse the always entertaining (ear splitting) noise band, Crazy Mushroom a rap metal band that has a strong Shanghainese following and Joyside those fun-loving, fun-creating garage rockers from Beijing. Two bands who were originally scheduled to perform but have been rumored to have canceled are Muscle Snog and Top Floor Circus.
Punk band Loudspeaker, one of the oldest bands in Shanghai to still be playing (formed way back in 1999), has finally released their 1st cd and are holding a cd release party at Yuyintang. Also holding a cd release party are those cute and cuddly (have you seen their drummer!?) noise poppers, Hedgehog. Because of all the other shows being held today, Hedgehog has wisely chosen to do a late show at Logo. Not interested in live music or the packed crowds of Logo (rhetorical question). Then head to the Shelter where Knifehandchop (from Canada)is in town spreading his electronic sound thanks to Michael and the Antidote collective.
