We have never actually experienced or even witnessed a person's ears bleeding from a live show, but last night we were pretty damn close. Thursday, the Ex-Models put on an interesting show of sharp, sonic blasts for a small 4Live audience. If you happened to miss it, no worries, the band will be joined by Carsick Cars and Torturing Nurse on Saturday at Yuyintang. Carsick Cars has enjoyed a stellar year, opening for Sonic Youth at 3 shows in Europe and they look to continue their climb with a few major European festival invites for 2008.
Friday night Noname those old school punkers from Beijing (originally Xian) will be back in town celebrating the China release of their new album (finally we hope), which was released earlier this summer in Europe on Razorblade Records. For those non-punkers out there, we recommend making the schlep out to Live Bar where Cold Fairyland, one of Shanghaiist's favorite chill out bands, will be playing.
On Saturday (besides the above mentioned Ex-Models show) the promoters behind the doomed 1234 Beach Rock Festival will be putting on a must-see show for any punk or metal fan. With a lineup that includes Beijing/Nanjing punk and metal bands Mi San Dao, Overdose, Noname, Hooka and Yaksa, the only real questions is whether to head bang or pogo. This show is being held at Ke Center for Contemporary Arts with doors opening at 8pm and the partying going well into the night. Tickets are a bit more expensive at 120rmb, but this includes an open bar and lots of finger foods. If moshing your way into Christmas isn't exactly what you had in mind, the Honeys will be playing at Live Bar and seeing them is worth the trip.
