<description>&lt;p&gt;I think you’ll find that China’s relationship with Pakistan goes back to its long running border dispute (still formally unresolved) over Arunachal Pradesh or South Tibet (depending on your politics) with India that flared into a hot war in 1962.

Of course as India’s economy has risen and trade with China grown exponentially while Pakistan has remained mired in comparative economic stagnation so China has sought to extricate itself from its historic relationship with Islamabad and cosy up to New Delhi. Both exercises have so far been only relatively successful.

I’ll leave it you to spot the irony in China’s government offering its condolences to a murdered advocate of democracy who was going about her business standing up against a dictatorship that seized power and was only contemplating an electoral process after a long period of pressure.
