Maglev protest videos

Thanks to the commenters on that last post, especially the one that alerted us to videos of the protests/marches that were on the Taiwan Youtube site. There were two that we found, embedded below. The first one is just a short clip of people walking around during the day. The second is from Xujiahui in the evening, with more chanting, from the evening of January 6. Oh yeah, and to the commenter who mentioned that we ought to put "alleged" in front of "health effects", you're probably right. If you're interested in learning a little about what health effects maglevs might have on people, you could try this Google scholar search. No definitive answers, but maybe a rudimentary way of glimpsing what is out there.

In the meanwhile, a blog devoted to the anti-maglev cause has even been started. It includes an English translation of a story that appeared in Wenhui Daily on the protest.

People power in action just a stone's throw from where I live and I had no clue!

So when is there going be a mock-up of a certain lady figure in Hong Kong Plaza? Dressed in Armani of course.

So in one of the books linked there, there's a graph showing the amount of ELF / EMF radiation surronding maglev lines:

http://books.google.com/books?hl=zh-CN&lr=&id=IADpxQmm79UC&oi=fnd&pg=PA79&dq=maglev+train+radiation+health+effects&ots=xD8PtOirwB&sig=lbgrPm1eMDgYvuwFrheLDpyO_Gw#PPA97,M1

Section 4.2.2

The graph shows that if you're standing 10 metres away from the line, you'll be subjected to less than 100 mG of this radiation. The earth's magnetic field is 500 mG.

As the same book says "ELF EMFs in and around (maglevs) are at least an order of magnitude less than the strictest...guidelines"
(section 4.2.3).

I would be afraid if someone was going to build a huge magnetic train next to my house too, but before marching on the streets, I'd check to see if my fears had an factual basis.

The blog devoted to the anti-maglev cause has just been censored and asked to delete all the articles for "the society harmony".
