Björk, Maroon 5, Harry Connick Jr. all playing Shanghai in March

bjorkshanghai011008.jpgThis is just a rumor at this point. But it is a strong rumor. Not a weak rumor, or a flat out lie (like these). Basically, we think you can mark your calendars ... and use pen.

Here are the details as we have heard them:

March 2: Björk
March 9: Harry Connick, Jr.
March 22: Maroon 5

All shows will be at the Shanghai International Gymnastic Center, 777 Wuyi Lu near Zunyi Lu (not far from the Zhongshan Park Metro).

Björk already has the gig listed on her official site. Maroon 5 do not (yet), but it's clear they will be in our neighborhood at that time. Harry Connick Jr., meanwhile, is just dreamy (or so says our college roommate's ex-wife).

Sign us up for tickets to see Ms. Guðmundsdóttir, who is touring in support of her favorably reviewed 2007 release Volta. The Chicago Tribune included her in their list of the top 10 concerts of 2007. Some recent concert reviews hint at what we might expect from Björk's Shanghai stop: a 10-piece female horn section, guys behind computers, lots of lasers and, of course, confetti. Really, she is supposed to put on quite a show.

Take photos of Björk at your own risk, however, and be thankful that the gig is on a Sunday and not a Friday — that is the day Björk drinks a liter of vodka, just like she has done every Friday since the age of 15.

In other music news, there is also a fairly strong rumor the Spice Girls will be headed our way. No date yet, so unfortunately we don't know when exactly to get as far away from Shanghai as possible.

There are other rumors that should be placed in the "weak" category, and they all appear in the current issue of the Shanghai Star: The Police, Madonna, Cyndi Lauper ... and more! (Including that old chestnut Bon Jovi).

I fecking love Bjork!

Might even be tempted to see Harry Jr too, but if Maroon 5 were playing outside my apartment, I'd close the curtains.

Would be so appropriate for Jonbon to play out in Gu Jersey.

Wife already preparing to fling bra onstage. He'd better show up.

Bjork would be great to see! Gotta convince the wife though that she's not punk. She still blames me for bringing her to No Name's show after I told her they sound like Coldplay.
