Live Music: Maygar Posse, Save the Bears and more 0093

This may get to you too late (unfortunately we have a 9 to 5 and can't blog on demand), but tonight, instead of sitting on your ass in front of the computer, stop by The Shelter and witness their first experiment with a four-piece (or more) band. Angry Jerks (last seen playing in Shanghai in March of 2007) from Nanjing, one of the tightest punk outfits this side of the Pacific, will be joined by those always pleasant Boys Climbing Ropes (we hear they like to climb ropes because of that special tingling sensation they get in their pants).

Chill out on Friday at Yuyintang, where Bai Yun and fellow folk rock friends are putting on another folk music party, complete with home videos and poetry readings. Out in Yangpu animal lovers will be gathering in support of Rock to Save a Bear, headlined by Soybean, from Beijing, and supported by local rockers Three Yellow Chickens, Kidney Stone and Happy Strings.

If you missed the first 0093 party with Top Floor Circus and Joyside, you should still be kicking yourself, but Saturday you have chance at redemption with the second installment being held at Yuyintang. Most of the bands we have never seen perform so it should be an interesting night out in the park.

Making its Grand Opening on Saturday is Redbeat bar, which is being hyped as an upscale, live music bar on Tongren Lu. Word on the street is that their idea of live music is a house band playing Tuesday to Saturday with an 'international' DJ spinning on Sundays. Sounds pretty lame to us, but then again, maybe we are wrong (we hope) and the place will actually be worth checking out.

Sunday, Magyar Posse from Finland will hypnotize audiences at Yuyintang with their lush post-rock instrumental sounds.

You might have forgotten because they don't play 6-string guitars or horns, but on Saturday we've got 2 live musicians from Beijing playing at Shelter.

Liman is bringing a stack of keyboards down for the occasion.

Nobody in their right mind wants to hear music that describes itself as "live analog techno" or "live IDM electronica."
