This news just in from Shanghai Daily:
FIVE workers were injured in an explosion at a demolished building near Shanghai’s landmark Jin Mao Tower in Pudong New Area this morning, Eastday.com reported.
Three people were seen flying out of the building due to the impact of the explosion, the report quoted a witness surnamed Meng.
The injured, three men and two women, are all in stable condition, the report cited Sun Zhiyang, deputy chief of Oriental Hospital, as saying.
The workers suffered several broken bones and burnt facial skin, Sun said.
The gas blast occurred about 10am at a store on the second floor of the building at the intersection of Huayuanshiqiao Road and Yincheng M. Road in Lujiazui, the city’s financial center, the report said.
The building is being demolished, it added.
Shoes, hats and gloves were found scattered on the ground near the blast site, the report said.
The explosion blew two holes in the doors of Jin Mao’s music hall, which is about 30 meters away, the report said.
Staff at a gas station said they found traces of unguarded fire at the scene, which may have triggered the blast.
