Subway voyeurs are watching you

This video entitled “这个女人太要了” ("This girl wants it too much") uploaded to Youtube just five days ago has received over 317,000 views and raised a storm on the Chinese internet. It shows a young Chinese couple hugging and kissing at a subway exit point before finally saying goodbye. Well, it turns out that the clip was taken via the surveillance cameras that you see all around subway stations and the (really annoying) voices in the background were Metro staff. Shanghaiist doesn't quite understand Shanghainese, but here are two choice quotes:

“哦呦!这个女的还满好看的!”
Aiyoh... this girl is quite pretty!

“(镜头)拉近点!拉近点!
Zoom in! Zoom in!”

Netizens enraged with the unethical behaviour of the metro staff soon started a mini manhunt. From the layout of the station and the signs that appeared in the clip, some internet sleuths soon identified the station to be the Youyi Lu station on Line 3. Someone else proferred that one of the four voices in the background belongs to a man who does not work at the station anymore. This is perhaps why he had the audacity to upload a clip that he took from security cameras in summer. Latest statements from Shanghai Metro say that the woman (among the background voices) was temporarily seconded to them and is no longer working for them. The other two men left Shanghai Metro in October and December. (h/t to Oiwan Lam of Global Voices Online)

Not-so-good translation though. Probably better translated to:

"Oh, and this gal is pretty good looking too."

Not that it changes the ethical issues of the particular Metro Security staff in question.

This incident was also described in the Oriental Morning Post. For a few more details, check out my article and partial translation:
