In the Murinae subfamily of the Rodentia order, there are whole heaps of squeekers that in English we name either (Harvest / grass / stink) mice or (water / whistling / bush) rats with no real logic. The Chinese on the other hand just say screw it; let's call them all ιΌ and see what they taste like.
Taking full advantage of this linguistic ambiguity is the Disney corporation whose Year Of The Mouse campaign is already pushing over 70 new pieces of memorabilia to overweight little emperors at Hong Kong Disneyland.
We welcome this takeover here at Shanghaiist; anglophone parents-to-be don't want a little rat baby, and we'd rather think of our 24 year old sweethearts as cute little mice then sneaky love rats. Besides which, history has shown that when it comes to fighting Disney, resistance is futile.

Yah, and it looks like a Shanghai Disneyland is in the works, too. More mouse on the way.
Good lord. That is going to get old REALLY fast. I love kitsch but kitsch mixed with Disney is too too much!
If they build Disneyland on Congming Island it's going to undermine all of the Eco-city plans they have....so typical...
