Yet more stuff that they're not showing you on telly

For those of you that found that video of that Guangzhou train station stampede too gruesome to watch, then please, DO NOT click on this video (h/t to Global Voices). The clip contains images of dead bodies, and in fact it's so gory we're surprised that it hasn't been removed from Youku yet.

On 29 January at 7.40am, a bus travelling from Chongqing flipped over a 40 metre cliff because of the frozen road conditions somewhere on the Guizun Expressway in Guizhou Province, resulting in 25 deaths and 13 injuries. (Note: The bus was technically allowed to carry 35 passengers, but it carried 38 passengers altogether.)

For those of you that are wondering why the foreign media has not been doing as well as it possibly could in covering the current winter crisis, Adam Minter of Shanghai Scrap sums it up pretty well: many foreign journalists are now on vacation and as for those that are still in China, well, they are either based out of Shanghai or Beijing. Minter also asks an excellent question: why aren't more reporters and news organisations not based in Guangdong itself, leaving their Hong Kong correspondents to cover all of southern China:

After all, it is, as we are so often reminded, the Workshop of the World, headquarters to much of China’s export capacity (and thus, the world’s), and home to some 30 million + migrants (in addition to 80+ million locals). But that’s a subject for another post.
