More mobile users = less fixed-line subscribers
More and more folks in China are getting in on the mobile phone rage: December 2007 saw an increase of 6.6 million new mobile phone users. The newest January 2008 stats are even more impressive, with 7 new mobile people. China Mobile is now the choice of 376.4 million people in a nation of 1.3 billion and counting.
China Unicom, too, has added 1.42 million new users in January 2008, up from the December 2007 figure of 1.36 million new Unicom people. January 2008 saw 1.12 million new users choose the GSM network; the CDMA network saw only 300,000 new users.
At the other end of things are the more dismal results for fixed-line phones. China Telecom lost 1.22 million fixed-line users, and China Netcom lost 764,300 users on its fixed-line network.
It's hard to carry your fixed-line phone on the elevated ring roads, by the way. No surprise that mobile's up and fixnet's down...
