Argghh..can you feel it? With the end of the holiday season things in the realm of live music are starting to pick up again. After a much needed break from Shanghai, we are back and ready for some musical action. During the break it seems that venues around the city have started to warm up to the idea of holding more gigs. In April, Windows Tembo, will reopen as a live music venue and is building a solid lineup of shows, while Harleys, that great basement bar in Xujiahui is rumored to be back on the scene with shows by both Queen Sea Big Shark and Canadian dance punk extraordinaire, You Say Party! We Say Die!.
Even Yuyintang has taken the time to do some renovations, doubling the capacity of their venue out on Yan’an Lu. Tomorrow night the venue will be broken in by US pop punkers, Alter Ego, who are in the middle of a China tour. If you ‘heart’ Blink 182 then Alter Ego will definitely get you off, if you aren’t a Blink 182 fan then you might try Live Bar where a bunch of folk musicians from Kentucky will be performing.
Saturday, the third installment of the 0093 band showcase is being held at Yuyintang and will give you a chance to see the new face of Shanghai rock in the likes of Mortal Fools, Chaos Mind and Empire Force. At Live Bar they are celebrating Women’s Day with a performance by all girl band Black Luna.
Emma is extra busy this month with big ticket concerts by Bjork, Maroon 5 and this Sunday’s performance by Harry Connick Jr. Peaking sometime in the 90s, Harry brings his nostalgic blend of 40’s jazz to an eager audience (well, that is what we were told anyway).
