Our friends over at Split Works tipped us off to their Yue Festival website, on which you can vote for the artists you'd most like to see at the second annual event this fall. Lots of big names on the list — how many of them are realistic, and how big of a role voter opinion will play in the signing process, remain to be seen. But we have been told that all but perhaps one band mentioned on the list are possibilities, although some are much more expensive than others (yes, we're looking at you Mr. West).
Here's who you can choose from, listed in random order:
Counting Crows, Smashing Pumpkins, !!!, Foo Fighters, 范晓萱 (Bo Bo Mavis), Rihanna, REM, Kanye West, Ben Harper, The Verve, Mastodon, The Strokes, Interpol, Wolfmother, Massive Attack, Feist, Franz Ferdinand, Jack Johnson, Rage Against the Machine, MC HOTDOG, Gnarls Barkley, Against Me!, 黄立行 (Stanley Huang), 苏打绿 (sodagreen), Metallica, 林一峰 (Chet Lam), Kings of Leon, Cypress Hill
Taiwanese pop rock band sodagreen was leading the charge last we checked. Surely they must be stuffing the ballot boxes in Taipei?
You are also allowed to write-in a vote. Let us make a humble suggestion: MGMT. (A live performance of their song "Time to Pretend" is embedded.)
Sounds like it could be the "year of music festivals" in Shanghai. We already told you that Midi may make it to Shanghai in '08. We've also heard that promoters Emma and China West may also try to throw festivals of their own.
Can Shanghai handle it?

If Bjork caused problems, wouldn't they* have issues with Rage Against the Machine?
RATM and the Pumpkins have also played the Beastie's Free Tibet concert (I saw 'em both in San Francisco!) - so I think that's a non-starter for the Yue Festival.
On the other hand those are number 1 and somewhere in the top 10 of my favorite bands of all time, so I'd gladly shell out bucks to see them, but I don't see it happening.
*They = them. You know, the powers that be.
I voted for Ghostface Killa as my write-in vote, by the way.
Weird Al got my write-in.
Straight Outta Lynwood was a killer album, but I'd like to see him go old school and play stuff from "Dare to Be Stupid"
