Some of you have been asking on our Facebook page (remember to sign up as a Fan!) if there will be an update of the Shanghaiist logo once the WFC — you know, the building that had to be redesigned because it reminded people too much of the Japanese flag, took forever to be built because of a property glut, was almost burnt down, and recently suffered a security breach — is up and running.
Well, here's your answer: No, we think it's kinda pointless to continuously update our logo, because there is no end in sight to how many big ones our city can whip out. And, as it turns out, people, that building is in grave danger of falling apart1! Shanghaiist reader Marc Dominic Cirkel sent us this tip on Sunday:
We saw & pictured an interesting incident at Shanghai World Financial Center this afternoon around 4.30pm. Luckily nobody seemed to be heart by this horror incident... A window-cell fall down from around 150m, where they close now a column of windows they spared during construction phase. It hit a tree on Dongtai Road, totally cutting it's crown and then smashing on the road.
1 Slight exaggeration.

Don't say it is an "exaggeration". Though the window cells aren't load bearing, you have to wonder how many more cells have been improperly installed and when they will fall out. Like during the World Expo?
