We were walking to the metro station the other day when we saw these posters outside a defunct spa at No. 1855 Xinzha Lu, near Yanping Lu. Upon closer inspection, it seems that residents are not pleased because they have not been consulted on the proposed opening of a senior citizens' hospital on the first to third floors of their residential complex.
Residents claim that the hospital was at first scheduled to be built elsewhere but has now been relocated to their residential complex. Stuck on the wall are angry petitions rejecting the opening of the hospital, including one in English by a French resident (interesting though, did the guy recently buy an apartment in the complex or sign a looong-term lease?). Today we even spotted huge, long banners unfurled from the higher levels of the residential block. Nothing yet on the Chinese news sites, watch this space for more developments.

This week in Shanghaiist

I live right across from that buidling, the spa/karaoke that used to be there was odd. We knew the place was probably a big "happy ending" massage parlor. I once went there with a female friend to get food massages, the staff chattered very nervously for a bit then told us that the spa was for men only. Anyhow, it has been closed for about a year. What's the bid deal of having a hospital? Got to be quiter then the previous occupants...
How about the rows of cripples hanging outside in the summer, it's already the area where you buy prosthetic legs and arms - kinda takes away from the trendy area that its slowly turning into.
That sauna never bother anyone nice and quiet but rows of old timers on their last legs, pun intended, is maybe not such a great idea
Great for Waga's just across the road, whilst sipping your laté, checking out all the injured and sick hopping past in their PJ's clingin on to their mobile IV drips
