Where we're going tonight: AC/DC @ Yu Yin Tang, Brown Nylon Suit @ C's & Laris

By Jake Newby

Belgium's High VoltageLet there be rock! Alright, it's not the real AC/DC obviously. Shooting to thrill instead will be a Belgian tribute band. Yep, that's a Belgian AC/DC tribute band. Magic.

Rock 'n' roll ain't noise pollution and these lads from Belgium are supposed to deliver a pretty high voltage performance that will shake your foundations. They've headlined festivals all over Europe and have even opened for the mighty Status Quo, leaving their audiences thunderstruck along the way.

So heatseekers, for some dirty deeds done cheap (the cover is only 30RMB), shake a leg and ride on down to Yu Yin Tang tonight, where your trip along the highway to hell will kick off around 8pm.

We should probably mention that the band apparently focus on the Bon Scott era (for those of you who know what that means) but we're hoping they're not too purist to crack out some of the post-Bon favourites as well — for one thing, if they don't it would render quite a few of the references in this post irrelevant.

Anyway, it should be a good show regardless. Of course, if you don't fancy rocking out on a school night then you can also catch them at Live Bar Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights and if you miss all those chances, then they'll be back at YYT next Tuesday as well.

For those about to rock, we salute you.

In the lavish surroundings of C's on DingXi Lu tonight (think graffiti on the walls and no doors on the toilets), the Brown Nylon Suit brigade are bringing a breath of fresh air to your Thursday night.

As a taster for the ear candies in store, we asked for a quick top 3 from one of the boys and here's what he gave us:

  1. Trans X - Living on Video
  2. Toxic Avengers - Superhero's
  3. Yazoo - Dont Go (Remix by Hell)

No, I've never heard of them either, but it's free entry, these people know what they're doing, and everything sounds good with a 10RMB beer in your hand. See you there.

C's is at 685 DingXi Lu, near FaHuaZhen Lu and YanAn Lu

For the rest of us who reckon drinks may offer a more alluring form of respite after a long day in the office rather than live music, Laris tonight could be a good option since it offers half-priced martinis on Thursdays. RMB 65 for 2 martinis is pretty much the only reason why we ever head there for drinks. This Shanghaiist will probably be heading over tonight upon invitation of some friends. The music can get a little too loud so if you want to chill out and catch up with friends rather than people watch, go early at 9pm before the crowds arrive an hour or two later. It gets so packed one inevitably wonders if any of these people need to work on Fridays at all. Surely a good venue for those who like to start their weekends early.

There is a certain link here; I think Angus Young's suit is made out of Brown Nylon.
