where the hell have we been getting our mozzarella from

At least as personal consumers, the mozzarella at City Market and Parkson's and the like is from local dairy farms.

Mozzarella, like other mass-produced cheeses here (feta, cheddar, etc) comes from lots of different places. New Zealand, Australia, and the US, for example. There are a few domestic producers in China, too. But most of it doesn't come from Italy.

Furthermore, I believe the tainted cheese in question is not simply mozzarella, the characterless cheap shit made from cow's milk, but buffalo mozzarella produced outside Naples, which has a bit of a trash collecting problem at the moment (hence the high levels of toxins in the food chain). You are most definitely not eating this kind of cheese on your slice of Melrose.

If a trash pileup in Naples is cause for a cheese ban - imagine what's in those crystal shrimp and mandarin fish that are splashing around on the toxic plains of Zhejiang and Jiangsu.
